Possum Point Players invites you to audition for our 2027 season opener, Play On! by Rick Abbot.
ABOUT PLAY ON!
A well-meaning theatre group is desperately trying to put on a new murder mystery, but an indecisive playwright keeps changing the script right up to last minute. As rehearsals unravel and opening night arrives, a series of missed cues, forgotten lines, misplaced props, and pure backstage chaos turn the production into a disaster only the audience gets to enjoy. Play On! is a laugh not just for theatre lovers, but anyone who loves a good, old-fashioned trainwreck!

Auditions will consist of cold readings from sides to be provided upon arrival.
CAST BREAKDOWN
Henry Benish
(male, 50s-60s)
A man who tries to please, especially his wife Polly; stutters when nervous and has a difficult time staying on track
Saul Watson
(male, 40s)
A bit of a jokester, he loves to stir things up; sometimes indulges in a little “liquid courage” off-stage
Billy Carew
(male, mid-late 20s)
A handsome, high-spirited young man who develops a crush on Violet while rehearsing
Violet Imbry
(female, mid-late 20s)
A pretty face behind which medical science may someday discover a brain; always knows her lines, just not what they mean
Marla “Smitty” Smith
(female, mid-late teens)
A pretty but awkward young girl; a reluctant actress who suffers from stage fright and often forgets her lines
Aggie Manville
(female, 30s+)
The stage manager and prompter, tough and patient; almost “bomb-proof” regarding theatrical disasters
Gerry Dunbar
(female, 40s+)
The director determined to pull together the troubled troupe of thespians, without strangling any of them (or the pretentious playwright)
Phyllis Montague
(female, 40s+)
The pretentious playwright; a bit ditzy and self-centered; doesn’t understand why everyone objects to her constant rewrites
Louise Pearey
(female, 25-40)
The sound-light-set-design technician--the only thing she doesn’t do backstage is dress the actors; a bit of an Eeyore
